Firesteed Willamette Valley Pinot Noir
In 2011, a cool spring and July 5th flowering set the stage for a late harvest. Fortunately, fantastic fall weather allowed the grapes to fully ripen. Harvest began first at our Erratic Oaks Vineyard on Ballard Road on October 19th and then continued through the end of the month at the winery's Estate Vineyard and other selected sites throughout the Willamette Valley.
Select lots of prime Willamette Valley Pinot Noir grapes were chosen to be fermented in small vessels with a high percentage of berries remaining whole. After fermentation, the young wine was gently pressed into new, one, two and three-year old French oak barrels for 18 months aging. The top-quality barrels were then selected and blended together for this cuvee.
The 2011 Firesteed Willamette Valley Pinot Noir is brimming with warm spices and aromas of red fruit and blueberry that are joined by the earthy, cedar notes just starting to develop over time in the bottle. Bold, but balanced with smooth, silty tannins, the spices return on the smooth, lingering finish.
